eg.When the UFO arrived,the girl was shopping.
While the girl was shopping,the UFO arrived.
在初中的题目中,一般从句中的动词是ing形式的,即进行时的,前面用while.不是的,则用when
在选择题中,后面是进行时的用while,虽然用when也可以,但是要选择最佳答案（o(╯□╰)o）其余的用when.

eg:
While the girl was shopping, the UFO arrived.
=When the UFO arrived, the girl was shopping.
如果前后都是进行时，多用while此时强调对比。

前后一个进行时一个不是用when
如：He was reading when she came in.
简单而言，when后面可跟 ing/ ed/ (other format)
while 后面只能跟 ing
eg.1. When Peter was watching TV, Mary was studying. (both -ing)
2. When I arrived, Peter had just left. (both not -ing)
3. ...

以上4句when的句子，可见前后两句clause，哪句用ing都行。
eg.5. While Peter was watching TV, Mary was studying.
6. While I was watching TV, the doorbell rang.
7. The doorbell rang while i was watching TV.
8. Mary was studying while Peter was watching TV.
以上4句while的句子，可见无论怎样，while的那句用ing准没错!
P.S. 选择题的话要小心，不要只看while/when就作选择，有时候可能会有例外情况。总之做MC题，先删走肯定错误的答案，再慢慢想while跟when的不同就很容易的了
